Vallombrosan Benedictine Sisters (OSB)

 Vallombrosan Benedictine Sisters

Founded on 22 May 2004

St. Umilta is the Foundress of Vallombrosan Benedictine Sisters, she was born in Faenza Tuscany 1226 and died on 22 May 1310 at Florence. The foundation of the monastic community dates back to 1226 when the recluse Umilta was invited by the Bishop of Faenza and the Abbot General of Vallombrosan monk to found a female monastic community, conferring on her the tittle 'Abbess'.

Vallombrosan Benedictine Sisters follow the rule of St. Benedict and the teaching of St. John Gualbert. To fulfill the vision of St. Umilta, it was decided to establish its branch in India. So on 22 May 2004 the newly convent was inaugurated in Bangalore by the Abbess and blessed by His Grace Rt.Rev.Dr. Ignatius Pinto the Archbishop of Bangalore.
